Following Public consultation undertaken by the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which showed support for redevelopment and refurbishment of the existing Whitby hospital, AE Robb & Associates, working with Medical Architecture were involved from the initial design development of the site through to final hand over of the project in 2021.

The proposed development comprises of the main tower, new two storey extension to the East facade, a new link bridge to Level C and newly developed external areas.

The works included under this Contract included the complete strip out and renewal of all the Mechanical & Electrical Services within the retained and refurbished seven-storey tower block.

Prior to refurbishment of the main tower part of the old outpatients department was refurbished to allow patients to be moved from the tower while the works took place. While the main tower block was being refurbished the mechanical & electrical services within the main hospital were retained and operational.

Other works carried out included survey of existing M&E services to determine the phasing & decant programme, M&E engineering strategy and sustainability report, HBN 00-07 Resilience strategies, site utilities information and initial Design input for 1:200 layouts.
